Patient Story

“My daughter had her wisdom teeth removed 10 days ago and she is doing amazingly well… We followed all the instructions that were given and also chose to use Exparel vs. opioids for pain management. It was the best decision we made for our daughter.

I highly recommend Dr. Laski and his associates for all your oral surgical dental needs. Thank you again for taking such great care of my family!”

At Valley Oral Surgery, we strive to provide patients with a comfortable recovery after surgery, and offering the latest, cutting-edge advances in pain management helps us achieve our goal.

Valley Oral Surgery is one of the first medical groups in the region to adopt a novel approach to treating pain after surgery that may help patients reduce or even avoid taking narcotic pain medicines, which can cause drowsiness, nausea, and other, often serious, side effects.

As part of this novel approach, surgeons at Valley Oral Surgery are treating patients with EXPAREL® (bupivacaine liposome injectable suspension), a long-acting, non-narcotic numbing medication that is applied directly at the surgical site. Patients receive EXPAREL during surgery and, as a result, are less likely to need narcotic pain medicines after.*

At Valley Oral Surgery, EXPAREL is being used in combination with other non-narcotic pain medications in many common surgeries, including dental implant placement, wisdom tooth removal, tooth extraction, biopsy, and bone grafting.

If you are considering having surgery, we encourage you to speak with your doctor to learn about how our new postsurgical pain management program might be right for you. Click here for a Discussion Guide that can help you and your doctor set realistic expectations about what your recovery experience may be like.

*The clinical benefit of the decrease in use of narcotics such as morphine was not demonstrated in the pivotal trials.

EXPAREL is indicated for administration into the surgical site to produce postsurgical analgesia.

Important Safety Information
EXPAREL should not be used in obstetrical paracervical block anesthesia.

In studies with EXPAREL, the most common side effects were nausea, constipation, and vomiting.

EXPAREL is not recommended for use in patients younger than 18 years of age or in pregnant women.

Tell your healthcare professional if you have liver disease as this may affect how the active ingredient (bupivacaine) in EXPAREL is eliminated from your body.

EXPAREL should not be injected into the spine, joints, or veins.

Other local anesthetics should not be injected immediately after injecting EXPAREL; this may lead to an immediate release of the active ingredient in EXPAREL.

The active ingredient in EXPAREL can affect your nervous and cardiovascular system, may cause an allergic reaction, and/or if injected into your joints may cause damage to the joints.
