Oral Surgical Assistant

FLSA Exempt Status–Non-exempt

Job Summary: Provides support and assists the Oral Surgeon and Clinical team with direct patient care to include preparation of operatory, surgical trays, equipment sterilization, assistance during surgery, pre and post-operative patient support, and performance of dental, diagnostic x-rays.

Job Specifications:

Greets and interacts with patients, staff, others, in a pleasant, courteous and tactful manner, specifically demonstrating respect trust, caring and empathy.

Prepares treatment room/operatory for patient by following prescribed procedures and protocols. Prepares patient for treatment by welcoming, comforting, seating, and draping patient.

Provides materials by selecting, mixing, and placing materials/instruments in the patient’s mouth.

Provides instrumentation by sterilizing and delivering instruments to treatment area; positioning instruments for access; suctioning; passing instruments.

Provides diagnostic information by exposing and developing radiographic studies; pouring, trimming, and preparing molds.

Documents dental/surgical/medical care by charting in patient medical record.

Maintains safe, clean, and compliant working environment by following procedures, rules, and regulations.

Ensures safe, optimal operation of dental/surgical/radiographic equipment reporting any equipment concerns to Lead Clinical Coordinator and/or Administrator in a timely manner.

Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols.

Conserves resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results.

Protects patients’ rights by maintaining confidentiality of personal and financial information

Experience: Experience in dental assisting with focus on Oral Surgery.

Education: High school graduate or equivalent required. Certification in Dental Assisting preferred. Certification in Dental Radiography, Certification in CPR

Special Skills: Demonstrates the ability to work with interruptions and adapt to changing priorities. Basic computer and keyboarding skills preferred. Demonstrates excellent service behaviors.

Reporting Relationship: Provider, Clinical Coordinator, Administrator, Asst. Administrator

Work Environment: Light>moderate energy level.  Ability to lift and carry 25-3Slbs.  Push/pull 50-l00lbs.

Physical Activity Requirements: Frequent (35-66%) of day:

Sitting, Standing, Lifting (waist level and above), Wrist position deviation, Pinching/fine motor activities. Instrument assistance/passing– use/repetitive motion
